Gary Cullen, Head Coach

Gary has been heavily involved in coaching over the past 15 years starting as a Recreational coach for his children’s teams while living in El Dorado Hills, CA.  Gary received extensive coaches training while in California, getting CYSF Coaching D, E, and F License certifications and Goal Keeper Training certification.  The teams Gary has coached have been highly successful over the years with seven league championship teams at both the Recreational and Select levels.

In 2004, Gary was one of the key developers of Tri-Mountain Soccer.  He created the bylaws, designed the logo, designed the first uniforms and had them made by a contact of his in Pakistan.  There was not a large enough base of players for his Club alone to support Advanced Competition Teams, so he enlisted support from two additional Clubs and helped form the Tri-Mountain Soccer Alliance.  He was the first president and volunteered to be one of its first coaches, starting with a U12 girls team named the Indefatigables, Indys for short.

His first year was typical of most first year teams, especially at the Select level and higher, and they won but a handful of games.  However by year two, the Indys became the undefeated champions of the District 5 Select league; the first Tri-Mountain team to achieve that level of success.  At U14, Gary pushed his team to try Premier level soccer and they qualified as such in the state of Oregon.  Again, the first Tri-Mountain team to achieve that status.  By U15, most of the Indy players were members of their respective high school teams and they suffered the unfortunate experience of their D5 league being canceled because of lack of teams.  To replace the league, the Indys challenged some other teams to games and then participated in the State Challenge Cup.  By U16, they decided to focus on their high school careers and the team disbanded.

Gary intended to retire from coaching after the Indys disbanded but could not resist the challenge of coaching another brand new team.  This new team he named the “Wind” after the team his daughter was on in California, who were three time league champions.  As with the first Indy team, the Wind won only a handful of games during its first year.  However, year two was very successful with the team advancing to the second round of State Cup. The upcoming year three should provide even more excitement and improvement.
